This week was not a very productive week in getting books completed, but a good week none the less. I was able to get through two books. For, one who does not like to give any spoilers or too many here are my thoughts on this weeks reads.

When I Was You by Minka Kent (Free provided by Amazon January 2020 First Reads)

I chose this book from amazon reads because I kept seeing an image of it everywhere and it was great because it was free. I liked that in the beginning it kept you guessing and thinking trying to figure out where the story was headed. And then I get to the section where me, as the reader, figures out that there is an injustice taking place. I almost stop reading it because of this. I found myself becoming to angry at the secondary character carrying out such atrocities against an innocent. But I chose to read on just to see if by some sheer chance the innocent finds themselves vindicated in the end. And vindicated she was. There was even a small sisterhood bond that was formed, even though it was just for a moment. Over all the book was okay. I say just okay because the author does a great job at building the characters but about half way through the book it feel like things get rushed along towards the finishing. I may try another book by Minka Kent in the future. We will see.

A Light on the Hill (Cities of Refuge #1) by Connilyn Cossette (Free with Amazon Kindle Unlimited)

At first I did not think that I was going to care too much for this book. It started in very strong within the first few pages and then fizzled out. However, it worked out because the author was truly building the story and each character within the plot. There was self discovery, revelation, grace and of course, my absolute favorite, the “voice” of God. There was a statement in the book that stood out to me the most because it truly spoke to my heart. Moriah (main character) thinks to herself

“….perhaps it was not Yahweh who had stopped whispering to my heart seven years ago, but me who had built a wall between us.”

How many of us finds that this happens more often than it should? I know I do. I am reminded that it is not my circumstances that I should concern myself with but the God who holds the answers and who has fashioned my future despite my mishaps. This is why the Word tells us, “being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;” Philippians 1:6 NKJV

This book is a great reminder that God is always near and just waiting to her from us. Connilyn did an amazing job displaying the heart of God and what it means to be loved by Him.
